WANT reflects the experience of moving through Korea’s status-driven society as a dancer without formal training or credentials.

It is both a quiet confession and a hopeful gesture — imagining a dance community where passion matters more than pedigree.

Without a proper space to dance, Manse wanders — and soon, her room, the park, even the mountains become her own studio. Everyday objects become her dance partners. Yet to passersby, she appears strange, unfamiliar, even laughable.

Through this lens, the film questions a world where dancers are judged not by movement, but by words on paper — degrees, résumés, labels. Rather than showcase dance itself, the film quietly resists the notion that legitimacy must be proven.

In doing so, Manse shares not just her struggle, but also her hope: for a dance world more open, more free — where movement speaks louder than credentials.

Manse Kim  - Director

After working as a freelance dancer in Korea, Manse faced significant barriers as a non-major. In 2021, they moved to Berlin, balancing dance work with cleaning jobs to sustain their life. In 2023, they relocated to Brussels, continuing to work as a cleaner while attending numerous workshops and training intensively for seven months.

As a dancer, Manse thrives in situations where the act of dancing itself becomes the composition. They dream of becoming a dancer who can dance with anyone, anytime, anywhere. Through this journey, Manse discovered a profound value in improvisational dance and has since devoted themselves to exploring its depth.

Driven by an ongoing hunger for dance education, Manse is now studying at La Manufacture in Lausanne, Switzerland.
